- Serious medical problems:
- Heart disease
High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Anaemia
- Kidney disease
- Severe urinary or genital infection
- Obesity
- Heavy smoker
- Polyhydramnios - where there is too much
amniotoic fluid
- Prematurity - where the baby comes before
37 weeks of pregnancy
- Post maturity - where the baby comes
after 42 weeks of pregnancy
- Multiple births, e.g. twins, triplets,
etc.
- Breech position - where the baby is coming
bottom or feet first
- Babies that are not head first, i.e.
lying sideways or obliquely
- A baby that has not been growing well
in the womb
- Placental problems (Abruption) - if part
of the placenta separates
- Praevia - when the placenta lies in front
of the baby
